Portopedia

Privacy policy

Effective 11 October 2026

Portopedia is a personal journal for the port wines you taste. It has no accounts, no adverts and no analytics, and we do not collect, sell or share your personal data. This policy explains what the app stores and the few times it connects to the internet.

What stays on your phone

Everything you put into Portopedia is stored only on your device: your tastings, scores, notes, bottle photos, costs, bottles, visited lodges, your name and your settings. We have no server, and none of this is sent to us.

Photos and the camera

If you choose to snap a bottle, Portopedia opens your phone's camera app. The photo is saved in your phone's gallery (in a "Portopedia" folder under Pictures), and a smaller copy is kept with the tasting inside the app. You can delete either at any time. Portopedia does not request camera access itself and never takes photos without you pressing the button.

When the app goes online

The app does not use your GPS location.

Sharing and backups you choose to make

Share my scores, Back up my log and the spreadsheet export only run when you tap them. They create a file or message that you send or save yourself, through your phone's share menu or Downloads folder. We never see it.

If Android backup is switched on for your phone, Android may include Portopedia's data in your phone's backup to your own Google account, under Google's privacy policy. You can turn this off in your phone's settings.

Deleting your data

Remove any tasting or bottle in the app, or uninstall Portopedia to delete everything it stored. Uninstalling cannot be undone, so use Back up my log first if you want to keep your log.

Age

Portopedia is about alcoholic drinks and is intended only for people of legal drinking age where they live. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect any information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
